13# The Equality of Created Man and Woman

The scripture text for this post is found in Genesis 1:27-28.

In the first chapter of Genesis we are not only told how God created and positioned humanity to have dominion over the earth, but we are also told something of our original nature. In verse 27-28 of chapter 1 we are told that God created humanity male and female. In these verses God emphasizes to us that we are made in male and female form. God makes no distinction between the nature and purpose of man and woman anywhere in verse 1 as He describes the origin of humanity.

Humanity, manifested in male and female form, are given dominion over the earth and every living thing on it. Who was created first or first heard God's commandment as well as everything detailed later in chapter 2 and 3 of Genesis is not relevant to our nature and role in creation. God will flesh out the individual roles for the man and the woman in the details of chapters 2 and 3 of Genesis, but make no mistake, there is no human and vice human in God's original creation and there is none described here.

The man and the woman are two equal parts of the one whole and if you subtract one you no longer have humanity as created by God. This idea is echoed in Genesis 5:1-2. The dominion over creation, the image and likeness of God and the equality of man and woman was our original state at creation.
